Serendib Flour Mills began its journey in 2000 and after successfully completing the construction of its milling facility (the only one of its kind in the country), the company commenced commercial operations in 2008 and introduced its very first product, All-Purpose Flour to the Sri Lankan market. The company has since then enjoyed substantial growth over the years, securing both consumer loyalty and a rapidly increasing brand presence across the island.

Having quickly obtained 9% of market share in the first year of its operations, Serendib Flour Mills gradually expanded its retail range in 2012 to include All Purpose, Atta, Wholemeal, Cake and Semolina Flour in 1 kg formats. In 2014, SFML relaunched its B2B range and renewed its focus on strategic expansion and operational efficiency, which paved the way for the company’s continued growth. In 2015, Serendib Flour Mills recorded unprecedented year-on-year growth in sales volumes and profits and the company strengthened its position as a key player in the consumer foods industry.

In 2015, the company celebrated the 7th anniversary of its flagship brand – 7 Star Flour in style, with an exclusive gathering that was attended by employees, distributors and partners alike. Giving rise to a new era of leadership and change in 2015, renowned management professional Kevin O’Leary was appointed as the company’s CEO and took over from Sathak Adbul Kadar.

In 2016, the company rebranded its 7 Star logo and packaging and went on to make history by introducing the first-ever fortified flour products to the local market. Enriched with essential minerals such as iron and folic acid, SFML’s fortified flour products support national nutrition strategies that strive to ensure the health and well-being of children and expecting mothers across Sri Lanka. In 2016, the 7 Star brand also relaunched its Bakers’ Flour product after the introduction of a new and improved formula.

Today, the company’s market share stands at 25% and looking ahead to the future, Serendib Flour Mills is well poised to enjoy continuous growth and success both locally and in the region.
