Colombo’s Best Cheesecakes

Cheesecake is not the easiest cake to make and is one of the most difficult to make really well. But we’ve put together a list of places in Colombo that consistently rise to the challenge and make the best cheesecake.

Sugar Cube – 15 Duplication Road, Colombo 4

Both in terms of price and quality of product, Sugar Cube wins. The cake is rich, fluffy and is constructed on a light, butter base. They serve Blueberry and Strawberry cheesecake among others.

Butter Boutique – 70 Rosmead Place, Colombo 7

These guys started small at the Good Market and have now expanded into a full on café with a range of cakes, many of which are originals. The Cookie Dough Cheesecake here is amazing, with a thick cookie dough base and creamy, rich cheesecake filling topped with whipped cream and a small cookie. Other varieties are available too.

Simply Strawberries by Jagro – 131 Vijaya Kumaratunge Mawatha, Colombo 5

Schakasz – 56 Stratford Avenue, Colombo 6

A wide variety of Cheesecakes are available here, with the Crème Brulee Cheesecake with a crunchy biscuit base with a rich custard and cream cheese filling and topped with burnt caramel and frozen strawberries, being the standout.

Bakes By Bella – 8 Alfred House Avenue, Colombo 3

The Oreo Cheesecake is a delight with a crushed Oreo base and a creamy, rich cheese filling topped off with more Oreos and whipped cream. Well worth the price.

TGI Fridays – Bank of Ceylon Mawatha, Colombo 1

It’s not common to associate great desserts with TGI Fridays but in true spirit of great times, their Cheesecake is amazing; the price, though, not so much. Still, it’s worth a try if you’re a cheesecake connoisseur.

They make an amazing, creamy slice of Blueberry Cheesecake. Large and well worth the price, they also have Double Chocolate Cheesecake and even a Brownie Cheesecake.
